Overview

The award-winning Houdini Dining Chair by Stefan Diez for e15 is named after the great magician Harry Houdini. Houdini’s slender silhouette is comprised of thin plywood shells, magically held in place without screws or nails. The complex shapes of the invisible frame elements are milled with a 5AX CNC machine, a sophisticated combination of craft and industrial production. The veneered surfaces of the backrest and the seat are manually bent and then glued to the frame. The originally two-dimensional wood surfaces thereby reveal their three-dimensional qualities. This principle is employed for an entire line of chairs, named after Houdini’s children: Leo, Jean, Eugene, and Bessy.

Houdini is made from lacquered oak veneered plywood and comes in five clear lacquered finishes. Houdini is available with or without an armrest making it suitable for contract as well as residential use.

For a minimum order of 24 pieces, Houdini is also available in walnut veneer, clear lacquered.
