How do you make a steel-clad structure with double-height ceilings on a 20-acre property feel cozy and comfortable?
That was the question we aimed to solve for this stately home designed by CLB Architects. Built atop five-foot-high platforms that position the home to embrace views of the Tetons and the Snake River, this retreat is a mountain-modernist’s dream with floor-to-ceiling jewel-box windows, 10-foot exterior eaves, and a clean-lined rectangular form. CLB tapped our team to source an array of understated, texture-rich furnishings to add casual elegance to spaces that might otherwise feel too grand.
Inside, board-formed concrete elements, white plaster walls, and concrete floors with flecks of green glass create a harmonious blend of natural textures that echo those found in the nearby cottonwood grove.
Our selection of seating and lighting coheres with this architectural palette of earth tones and tactility. In the living room, Minotti’s modular Andersen seating system in a pewter fabric has a restrained elegance that mirrors the towering board-formed concrete fireplace it faces. A pair of deep-set Poltrona Frau Archibald armchairs—a modern take on the casual leather living room chair—sit beside the sofa’s chaise. Poliform’s Mondrian coffee table with a rounded-edge marble top in a glossy finish adds a soft and sleek touch. This sinuous shape repeats in the dining room, where the De La Espada Together table comfortably fits six Poliform Ventura chairs upholstered in caramel-colored leather.
Despite all the neutral hues, the clients were open to incorporating a few elements with saturated color and unique form. A playful set of wooly Bandas chairs by Gan act as functional—and comfortable—art pieces in the media room, while matching rugs create a textured runway. Branching out above the dining table, a Bocci chandelier with variegated blown-glass bulbs resembles a twiggy tree flipped on its head.
Ultra-comfy yet sophisticated, Riverbend embodies our modus operandi: luxury European design meets Rocky Mountain modern.
