The Armchair Edit: 5 Pieces Worth Obsessing Over

Stories

When it comes to selecting the perfect armchair, who better to trust than the design experts who live and breathe these pieces daily?

We asked our Studio Como team to share their current armchair obsessions—and the results reveal everything from eco-conscious outdoor loungers to cloud-like reading companions. Here are five chairs that have captured our hearts (proof that good design truly makes daily life feel more special).

Emmi Chair by Hannes Peer for Minotti

Minotti’s Emmi Armchair – The Team Favorite

Chosen by: Mimi VanDyke, Design Consultant, Studio Como Aspen

There’s a reason three of our five team members selected Emmi as their top pick—this Hannes Peer-designed piece for Minotti simply gets everything right. “It’s the perfect lounge chair,” says Mimi, and we couldn’t agree more.

What makes Emmi so universally beloved? The generous proportions invite you to sit cross-legged and cozy, while the accompanying ottoman transforms the chair into a full lounging system perfect for reading marathons or movie nights. The real magic lies in Emmi’s versatility—available in an impressive range of fabrics and leathers with base finishes in leather, wood, or lacquer, allowing you to customize the aesthetic from Rocky Mountain casual to European luxe.

Pairing: Mimi would complement Emmi with a simple side table for morning coffee and evening reads, plus a minimal floor lamp to let the chair’s sculptural form take center stage. Add an Alps rug underneath to maximize the coziness factor.

Viewing: Emmi is currently on display at Studio Como Bozeman in leather and at Studio Como Denver in a sumptuous green bouclé with matching ottoman.

Flexform Loungescapes Armchair by Antonio Citterio for Flexform

Flexform’s Loungescapes Armchair – The Sophisticated Companion

Chosen by: Laura Folgoni, Design Director

When our Design Director Laura selects a piece, you know it’s special. Antonio Citterio’s Loungescape Armchair for Flexform embodies everything we love about Italian design—sophisticated yet understated, minimal yet deeply comfortable.

“This lounge is the ultimate comfort,” Laura explains. The chair’s wide, boxy silhouette might suggest heft, but the tapered base adds visual lightness that prevents it from overwhelming a space. The swivel feature is Laura’s favorite detail—perfect for transitioning from TV viewing to book reading without missing a beat. The enveloping arms create what Laura describes as “a soft embrace,” while the design’s minimal presence means it plays beautifully with any decor style.

Pairing: Laura appreciates Loungescapes’ chameleon-like quality—it pairs equally well with a raw wood side table or a glossy monolithic piece, making it what she calls “a silent companion” that adapts to your aesthetic whims.

Milano Bergere by Paola Navone for Baxter

Baxter’s Milano Bergère – The Cloud of Comfort

Chosen by: Gabriela Peña, Design Consultant, Studio Como Denver

“This is what a lounge chair is meant to feel like!” declares Gabriela about Paola Navone’s Milano Bergère for Baxter, and her enthusiasm is infectious. This isn’t just furniture—it’s an experience in comfort that “sends you floating on a cloud of leather and bliss.”

The Milano excels at full-body support, making it ideal for taller individuals who often struggle to find chairs that properly cradle the head, neck, back, and hips. What Gabriela loves most is the chair’s unpretentious character—the rough-cut leather button tufts paired with Baxter’s incredibly soft natural leathers create an effortless aesthetic where comfort truly speaks for itself.

Pairing: Gabriela envisions the Milano alongside Van Rossum’s Symbiosis side table and Bocci’s 118.3 floor lamp, plus the two essentials: “a nice long book and a nap.”

Viewing: Milano is currently on display at Studio Como Aspen in a soft sage leather.

Abi Armchair by Christophe Delcourt for Van Rossum

Van Rossum’s Abi Armchair – The Architectural Statement

Chosen by: Emily Sewell, Design Consultant, Studio Como Denver

Emily’s selection reveals her eye for pieces that make a statement. The Abi Armchair by Van Rossum commands attention with its bold blend of brushed black oak and black upholstery—a combination that Emily describes as “semi-brutalist style offset by organic materials.”

This is furniture that ages beautifully, crafted from materials designed to develop character over time. The supportive seat paired with the sling leather back and loose cushion creates an invitation to truly relax. Emily appreciates the chair’s versatility—various oak stains and upholstery options from Van Rossum mean the Abi can complement different styles and palettes while maintaining its striking presence.

Pairing: Emily would complete the scene with a matching ottoman for proper rest and relaxation, plus Baxter’s monolithic Pilar side table. For the perfect reading corner, she’d add Flos’s iconic Parentesi Lamp by Achille Castiglioni, topped off with “a good book, some tea, and a cozy throw.”

Viewing: Abi Armchair is on display at both Studio Como Denver and Studio Como Salt Lake City.

No-Glue Outdoor Armchair by Massimo Castagna for Exteta

Exteta’s No-Glue Outdoor Armchair – The Conscious Choice

Chosen by: Lauren Ambuhl, Design Consultant, Studio Como Salt Lake City

Lauren’s selection reflects our growing appreciation for conscious luxury. Massimo Castagna’s No-Glue Outdoor Armchair for Exteta proves that environmental responsibility and sophisticated design can beautifully coexist.

The contemporary design elements—curved upholstered back and sleek glossy mahogany frame—create visual impact, while the innovative construction tells an equally compelling story. True to its name, the chair uses no adhesives in manufacturing, allowing individual elements to be replaced as needed and the entire piece to be disassembled and recycled at the end of its lifespan.

Lauren loves the contrast of leather and barrique mahogany, but notes that fabric options from Exteta open up even more possibilities. With five wood finish options available, the No-Glue Outdoor Armchair adapts to various aesthetics while maintaining its eco-conscious credentials.

Pairing: Lauren envisions the chair alongside Minotti’s Andreé Outdoor Side Table, featuring stunning ceramic in nature-inspired colors, plus BROKIS’s Bonbori Outdoor lighting—inspired by Japanese festival lanterns and perfect for both intimate evenings and celebratory gatherings.

Dream Setting: Two chairs on a covered deck overlooking the Utah mountains, perhaps near the Jordanelle, creating “a spot for both conversation and comfort.”

The Studio Como Difference

What strikes us most about our team’s selections isn’t just their individual merits, but how each chair reflects our belief that thoughtful design enhances daily life. Whether it’s Gabriela’s perfect reading setup, Mimi’s cross-legged comfort, or Lauren’s sustainable luxury, these pieces prove that the right armchair can elevate the everyday moments we spend in them.

Each of these chairs represents the marriage of European craftsmanship with American West sensibilities that defines Studio Como. They’re pieces designed not just to be admired, but to be lived in, loved, and passed down through generations.
