Serie Up 2000 Armchair

A symbol of pop culture, Serie Up 2000 Armchair by Gaetano Pesce for B&B Italia is a re-edition of the iconic 1969 master­piece. Particularly noteworthy among the series is the armchair/ottoman combination known as UP5_6, with its unmistakable anthropomorphic references. A metaphor for a large womb, it calls to mind ancient fertility statues. But that’s not all: a spherical ottoman tied to the armchair contrasts the image of comfort and convenience with a more figurative one of a woman with a ball and chain tied to her foot. According to Pesce, he was seeking to tell a story about women as prisoners subjugated to the whims of men.

This armchair also comes in a junior version for kids aged 3 and up—a perfectly faithful replica of the original design, only smaller.
