Milan City Guide: Salone del Mobile 2022
Over four hundred thousand design aficionados will arrive in Milan next week for the 60th edition of Salone del Mobile. Joining the throng will be Studio Como Design Director and native Milanese, Laura Folgoni. Here are Laura’s recommendations for exploring her beloved city from restaurants and bars to sights and shops.
Sights to See
While there are so many gorgeous landmarks to visit while in Milan, a visit to the historic Piazza Duomo is a must. It’s the perfect place to admire the intricate and beautiful architecture of Milan.
The Navigli Canals are also a great place to walk around so that you can peruse boutiques and admire the marvelous scenery. When you need to rest your feet, find a local spot and sit down for a spritz… or two!
“To fully experience Milan, opt for walking as your mode of transportation—just make sure you wear comfortable shoes!”
Where to Stay
For an elegant experience, stay at Galleria Vik, located inside the ornate Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Italy’s oldest active shopping gallery and a major landmark of Milan, opening in 1877.
If you’re interested in a room with a view, the Straf Hotel is a perfect choice. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a room with a view of the Duomo di Milano, the second-largest cathedral in the world.
Shopping & Snacks
Begin your shopping adventure in Milan at 10 Corso Como—a shopping hotspot for Italians and tourists alike. Afterward, visit La Rinascente, the oldest and largest mall in Milan. While you’re there, you can explore a stunning array of high-end shops and designers.
If shopping has you in the mood for a snack, Laura recommends stopping by Forneria Princi for a delicious treat like a panini con focaccia! This famous bakery is well known for its fine array of pastries, bread, pizza, and coffee.
Where to Enjoy a Drink
Camparino in Galleria is the home of the Italian Aperitivo! Established in 1915, this recently renovated spot is right in the heart of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.
If you’re in the mood for a refreshing beverage, Terrazza Aperol is the perfect place for a delightful Aperol spritz. The incredible view of the Duomo is a plus!
Where to Eat
To end a wonderful day in Milan, make plans to enjoy a beautiful meal at Seta. This unique restaurant features a mix of traditional Italian and French cuisine. Their dishes are prepared with the utmost attention to detail by Michelin Star Chef Antonio Guida.
When Laura visits, she enjoys ordering the Ravioli or Astice with an eggplant side, but she also loves asking the waiter for their recommendations!
In addition to the carefully crafted dishes, Seta is a must-visit for its atmosphere. “Food is also enjoyed with the eyes, and the atmosphere at Seta is superb.”
