Introducing Eikund: Norwegian Mid-Century Icons

Stories

Studio Como is delighted to welcome Eikund to our line list, bringing Norwegian mid-century design icons to the Mountain West.

Eikund’s commitment to heritage craftsmanship, combined with their forward-looking sustainable values, perfectly aligns with Studio Como’s dedication to quality, authenticity, and livable luxury.

Reviving a Mid-Century Legacy

Eikund, founded in 2016, has swiftly become the guardian of Norwegian design heritage, gathering an extensive collection of iconic furniture from the 1950s and 60s under one roof. Through a meticulous “treasure hunt,” they’ve revived legacy pieces by esteemed Norwegian designers like Fredrik A. Kayser, Torbjørn Afdal, Sigurd Resell, Sven Ivar Dysthe, Torbjørn Bekken, and Arne Tjomsland. The result is a beautifully curated collection, each piece offering a unique glimpse into the golden age of Nordic design.

In a market often focused on transient trends, Eikund’s dedication to classic, enduring designs speaks to the value of creating furniture that lasts. As they put it, their goal is to produce furniture that is truly sustainable, resisting the tides of planned obsolescence and valuing quality above all else. Eikund’s Nordic modernism reflects the timeless appeal of mid-century design with a sense of understated elegance that feels right at home at Studio Como.

Sustainability Meets Superior Craftsmanship

Eikund’s commitment to quality is evident in every detail of their designs, from the choice of natural materials to the refined, hand-finished craftsmanship. This dedication to high standards makes each piece a celebration of Norwegian design excellence, engineered to withstand the test of time while remaining true to its environmental values. The brand’s production processes reflect a respect for nature and emphasize the sustainable use of materials—a mission we fully support at Studio Como.

The Eikund Collection Highlights

Among Eikund’s standout pieces, a few designs offer especially distinctive charm and character:

Fluffy Lounge: Now available to experience firsthand in our Denver showroom, the Fluffy Lounge by Fredrik A. Kayser is a testament to comfort and elegance. With its ulta-soft sheepskin upholstery and sculptural wooden frame, the Fluffy’s plush, inviting presence offers a striking contrast to its minimalist lines. It’s a piece that embodies both warmth and sophistication, capturing the essence of Norwegian relaxation.

Øya Table: Designed by Sigurd Resell in 1956, the Øya Table is a truly unique piece with a fascinating origin. Originally made as a one-of-a-kind commission, this extendable dining table reflects Resell’s characteristic focus on functionality and logical construction. Its elegant elliptical tabletop is both classic and modern, supported by graceful, oval-to-round legs that reinforce its timeless appeal.

Era Dining Chair: An innovative chair with a modern material mix, Era Chair by Sven Ivar Dysthe combines a black powder-coated steel frame, a steam-bent wooden backrest, and a floating veneer seat to create a stackable chair that merges aesthetics with functionality. Now in production for the first time, Era offers an elegant, versatile design suited to various styles and settings.

Veng Lounge Chair: Designed by Torbjørn Bekken in 1960, the Veng Lounge Chair is one of his most striking creations. While working with the pioneering design firm Rastad & Relling Tegnekontor, Bekken crafted this chair with a dynamic contrast between its slender, curved backrest and sculptural armrests. The Veng embodies both elegance and boldness, making it a statement piece that captures the drama of mid-century Norwegian design.
