Luxury Leather Furniture

Poltrona Frau is an Italian furniture maker that specializes in luxury leather seating for interiors. Founder Lorenzo Frau set up shop in Turin in 1912 after seeing Chesterfield sofas in England and imagining their success in Italy. In less than two decades, Poltrona Frau was furnishing the most important interiors in Italy, including the residences of the Italian Royal Family, the interior spaces of Expo Turin 1928, and the lavish transatlantic Rex, the pride of the Italian Navy. By the 1930s, the furniture company was a status symbol.

In 1962, after the acquisition by the Nazareno Gabrielli group, Poltrana Frau moved to Tolentino in the Marche region of central Italy, an area with a strong reputation for leather manufacturing. It was in Marche that Poltrona Frau found a caliber of workshops with the expertise and the technical skills for selecting and working leather to the company’s exacting standards. It is those standards, together with Italian creativity, that makes Poltrona Frau so admired around the world today.

Over the last 100 years, Poltrana Frau has taken great care to preserve and hand down the entrepreneurial genius of Renzo Frau. The brand’s comprehensive knowledge of their roots, together with their capacity for interpreting contemporary life, is what has made this modern furniture company such a standout in the world of interior design.
