Founded in Italy in 2006 by Cristiana Giopato and Christopher Coombes, Giopato & Coombes is a lighting design studio that brings a poetic and innovative approach to illuminating spaces. The duo’s work is rooted in a deep understanding of light’s emotional and physical impact, exploring its intangible qualities to create sculptural pieces that transcend mere functionality. Their journey began with a shared passion for industrial design, cultivated through rigorous training and experience with some of the most renowned names in the field, including Makio Hasuike, Patricia Urquiola, George Sowden, and Sebastian Bergne.

Giopato & Coombes’ commitment to craftsmanship is evident in their meticulous attention to detail and the innovative techniques they employ. Their collections, such as Bruma, Bolle, and Maehwa, are not just lighting fixtures but sculptural objects that bring a sense of wonder and tranquility to any space. The Bruma collection, for example, features handmade laminar glass modules inspired by the soft, muffled reflections of water on a foggy day. This dedication to materiality and texture is a hallmark of their work, where traditional methods like the Muranese pulegoso glass technique are reimagined through modern, sustainable practices.
