In the heart of Jackson Hole is the Glenwood, a new, luxury residential community with townhomes that are conveniently accessed, proximal to Town Square, yet purposefully private.
For the last several years, Studio Como has been engaged in the multi-phase project of designing the room at the heart of each individual residence: the kitchen.
The project encompassed twelve units with variable kitchen and wet bar systems from Italian-made Poliform, all in the same finishes: grafite melamine on the islands and Spessart oak veneer on the perimeter cabinets.
“Our client wanted a polished, luxury feel and a level of sophistication in a modern presentation—without being too clinical,” says Studio Como lead kitchen designer Matt Smith, explaining how the warm, smoky woods help to achieve that. “The coziness this finish offers is not something you usually get in stark European cabinetry design, and the strength of the melamine material is unmatched—a go-to option because it’s highly durable, manageable within varying budgets, and offers a clean and striking visual.”
The kitchen aesthetic is a match for the rest of the interiors, which feature expansive glazing, floating staircases, and wood-paneled walls. The rich and luxurious kitchen palette offsets the lighter wood flooring and above-island ceiling inserts. The Glenwood’s location in central Jackson—“right where everyone wants to be,” Matt says—also plays on the interior. “The views of the surrounding geography are one of the design’s biggest assets.”
While the design was continuous across all twelve units, each required specific consideration. “There were a few duplicates or mirrored layouts among the twelve, but each layout has some level of customization, to a degree,” Matt says. “When we do multi-unit projects, we always start with a simple base design that addresses the majority of units’ needs, and then identify any areas that will need special attention—whether that’s a return wall needing double-thickness for mechanical purposes, or a single cabinet that needs to be changed for a specific reason.”
Poliform’s design flexibility was instrumental in delivering the cohesive yet custom results. “Poliform has strong brand recognition,” Matt explains. “It’s a company that’s been around for a very long time and has been consistently known for producing extremely high-end casework. There are, of course, competitors with similar products, but Poliform’s longevity and excellence outlive them all.”
With the kitchen system and products coming all the way from Italy, forethought and planning were paramount. The Studio Como team worked diligently to coordinate schedules with the trades, account for the right amount of time for installation, and ensure the product was protected and kept pristine all the way through, from delivery to completion.
“Any challenges we faced were from the same set you always have with European cabinetry, which is that you’re ordering something from very far away,” says Matt. “But managing these components is where Studio Como always excels. The Glenwood is another example of Poliform’s success, and ours.”
