Contemporary Brutalist Furniture & Rare Books

Archivism is an American brand that designs and produces contemporary furniture at the intersection of Brutalism and Romanticism. Founded by Ben Gaffney and Chris Hardy in 2022, Archivism emerged from a profound connection to legendary Danish-American furniture designer Jens Risom, whose book collection inspired the brand’s genesis.

Their debut collection weaves together structure, material, and artistic vision in a way that both honors heritage and embraces contemporary expression. Each piece invites the owner to slow down and engage with both the physical and conceptual aspects of design.

Manufacturing takes place in two U.S.-based factories, where Archivism creates made-to-order pieces using ethically sourced, locally harvested timber. This hands-on approach allows for continual refinement and quality control, resulting in furniture that feels both internationally inspired and regionally grounded — designed for how people truly live.

The Founders

Archivism represents the creative partnership of Ben Gaffney and Chris Hardy, two furniture industry professionals whose complementary talents have resulted in a uniquely thoughtful approach to contemporary design. Gaffney brings years of industry expertise and an appreciation for craftsmanship, while Hardy contributes a designer’s sensibility and affinity for exploring connections between literature, art, and functional objects. Together, they’ve created a brand that serves as both furniture design studio and cultural archive, exemplifying the balance between concept and craft that defines Archivism’s approach.
