Hepburn Bed by Matthew Hilton for De La Espada is a luxurious upholstered bed with elegant simplicity and visual lightness achieved through the clever use of superb materials.
A slim platform lifts the mattress above slender solid wood legs. Optional side tables in solid wood connect intuitively to the underside of the bed, and ‘float’ above the floor, maintaining the visual levity of the form. The bed is ideal for compact spaces as the frame is only minimally larger than the mattress.
Interested in the idea of impossible lightness, Matthew Hilton tries to create the feeling of greater spaciousness in a room by reducing the visual weight of his furniture. Hepburn Bed is part of a series of ‘impossibly light’ products including Hepburn Sofa and Light Table.
Available in black walnut, white oak, or ash in a range of finishes, and a range of fabric and leather options. Optional side tables are available separately.
Platform base is an advanced, black-dyed wood composite with an oil and wax finish. This panel has holes for air circulation. The platform surface is smooth, thus a small amount of mattress movement may occur, though in most cases the weight of the mattress will hold it in place. If you prefer to control the movement, you may wish to use a non-slip mattress pad.
Please note that when using leather to upholster the expansive surface of the headboard, our craftspeople will use their discretion to ensure the natural variations in the hide’s color and grain are most elegantly displayed. This may mean adding stitch lines to the headboard.
Crafted at the solar-powered De La Espada factory in Portugal and rigorously engineered with the support of De La Espada’s product development team and expert craftspeople. Durability, comfort, and aesthetics combine for a product that lasts a lifetime.
Timber is sustainable solid wood from North America or Europe, offering long-term repairability of the surface. Natural color and grain variations in every plank make each piece an individual. Traditional wood joinery bonded with wood glue ensures structural integrity. All finishes are non-toxic and applied by hand, sprayed, or rubbed.
Textiles supplied by a renowned Danish partner with fabric mills in Norway, Italy, and the UK. Leather sourced from tanneries in Sweden and Italy using only hides from European cattle.
